Sat 31st May saw 26 boats enjoy fabulous conditions for a joint Phantom
(16) and Solution (10) Open at Delph SC.
Kevins design offers the perfect Solution for those competitive - but
smaller sailors than those in the Phantom fleet.
Race one saw everyone chasing Chris Pickles transom, only Manning and
Turner getting (not very) close.
Race two, a knit one / pearl one course, was much the same but unlike
Phantoms the boat appeals to lady sailors so Karen Taylor, Stuart Hoare,
and Manning all ran him close this time. 5 seconds separated the first
four.
With two bullets and an opening bar Pickles declined a third race, leaving
Taylor, Manning, and Turner to slug it for the places. Manning found the
intellectual challenge of believing two seconds to guarantee him second
place irrefutable and retired, only to find Taylor and Turner both able to
gain second spot. Karen Taylor immediately took the lead and held off
Turner for a win and second place.
Retirement to the bar and an excellent BBQ then proved irresistable.
